The purpose of the Holy Name Society is to promote reverence, devotion, and respect for the Most Holy Name of Jesus and providing spiritual growth for its members. The society meets on the second Saturday of the month after the 9:00 AM Mass. They recite the rosary after Mass, then proceed downstairs for their meeting and enjoy a light breakfast at 10:00 AM.
St. Augustine’s Holy Name Society is a ministry whose membership consists of adult males from our parish. Each year the ministry fulfills its spiritual and corporal works of mercy through monetary donations made to our parish’s discipleship, ministries, and outreach programs. For example, Catholic Bibles were purchased by the Holy Name Society and donated to the classrooms of our Religious Education Program. Bibles were also donated to our parish's Bible Studies Group. In addition to their financial generosity, the Holy Name Society is also generous with its prayers. They pray weekly for the unborn on Pearlman Drive.
One of our Acts of Mercy is to pray for the living, deceased, and unborn. A major way our ministry prays is through the Rosary. Rosary beads may be received at most 9:00 AM Masses.
Over the past three years, the HNS has supplied, free of charge, over 2000 Rosary beads and 3500 Rosary booklets. Rosary literature may be found in the Gathering Space of St. Augustine Church.
Consider praying the Rosary each weekday preceding the 6:30 AM Mass or after the 9:00 AM Mass, on Saturdays after the 9:00 AM Mass, and on Thursdays at 5:00 PM on Pearlman Drive by the Spring Valley Market Place.
The Holy Name Society is, of course, pro-life. Each year in October, we participate in the Human Chain for Life at the corner of Route 59 and Middletown Road. We also attend as a group the first Monday Mass for the Unborn at St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack.
Each week, some of our members pray the Rosary for the unborn on Pearlman Drive in Spring Valley. Our usual time is Thursday evening at 5:00 PM, although some of our members go at other times.
