Along with the Church of Saint Anthony in Nanuet, St. Augustine Church began as a mission parish of the Church of Saint Paul in Congers. |
1901 |
St. Augustine Church became a mission parish of the Church of Saint Anthony; as they had been officially established as their own parish. |
1934 |
The Forester’s Hall, on Main Street in New City, was purchased and renovated into a church. It was served by visiting priests from Saint Anthony’s Parish. |
1957 |
Due to the growth of the population during the 1950s, the Archdiocese of New York decided to raise St. Augustine’s to the status of a parish. The Church of Saint Augustine of Hippo in New City was established in April of 1957. |
1961 |
St. Augustine School opened its doors. Our parish flourished and with its growth, many new parish groups were formed to meet the needs of all the parishioners. |
2000 |
To accommodate the growing need of our parish, ground broke for construction of the new church. |
2001 |
The new Saint Augustine Church was dedicated by Edward Cardinal Egan, Archbishop of New York, on the Feast of Christ the King — November 25, 2001. |
